Remote Workers’ Therapy ’25 — A Breath of Fresh Air for Nigeria’s Remote Workers

At the just concluded Remote Workers' Therapy, we explored conversations around sustaining remote work, avoiding burnout, mental and physical wellness, and community. If you didn't attend, you can read the recap of events here.

Remote Workers’ Therapy ’25 — A Breath of Fresh Air for Nigeria’s Remote Workers

Remote work can be lonely, but RWT'25 reminded us it doesn't have to be.

Saturday started like many other Saturdays of late. A light rain helped cool the atmosphere and gave way to mild sun. Across the Third Mainland Bridge, in Victoria Island, the Cafe One hub was being prepared for a one-of-a-kind gathering scheduled to take place later that morning.

Remote Workers’ Therapy started checking in guests at around 10:30 AM and, just before 11 AM, our first few guest speakers started to arrive. Dami Fayanjuola, Founder & CEO of Peepuu HQ, caught up with Oluwapelumi Oyetimein, COO of Peppa, in the lobby as guests filed in, got checked in, and settled in their seats.

There was a feeling of excitement in the air as we prepared to kick things off.

Opening Address

A few minutes before 12 PM, we had checked in over 40 attendees and were concluding introductions. After a bit of introductions and networking among the attendees, Judith Azi, Operations Manager at Cenoa, took the stage to welcome our esteemed attendees and introduce the event.

“Remote Workers’ Therapy was created from an idea to bring Nigeria’s growing remote work community together under one roof to sit down with leading minds in the remote work industry in order to learn, connect, and unburden themselves,” Judith said, smiling as she usually does.

She continued, “Today, we have freelancers, remote contractors, digital nomads and aspiring global remote workers in the house and we are excited to learn from all of you, as well as help you discover new ways of optimising your work.

There is a general misconception about remote work being all about freedom and working in your pajamas. All of you here know there’s more to it than just that. There’s the constant pressure to deliver, the burnouts, the obliteration of work-life balance, and the burden of collaborating with people you can’t see often. We’ll be discussing all that today and discovering new ways to optimise our work for better.”

Judith ended her speech by sharing Cenoa’s vision to support remote workers and digital nomads with tools to help them get paid quickly, efficiently, and affordably.

Remote Work: The Good, The Bad, and Everything In Between

After Judith shared the opening address, we moved straight to the first Panel Session of the day; Remote Work: The Good, The Bad, and Everything In Between, moderated by Seun Babajide-Duroshola, and featuring three panelists — Dami Fayanjuola (CEO, Peepuu HQ), Josiah Adegboye (Tech Leader & Mentor), and Oluwapelumi Oyetimein (COO, Peppa).

During the panel session, our vastly experienced panelists shared extensively from their knowledge base, covering questions around finding remote work, building a sustainable remote working schedule, delivering excellently in your job and, maintaining healthy communication and boundaries in your work.

Dami shared tips on finding high quality remote work opportunities, drawing from her experience as a global remote work hiring manager and her work at Peepuu, building the right personal brand to position for those opportunities, and making the most out of those opportunities.

Unburden Session: The Wellness Circle

After the short break at Remote Workers’ Therapy, we reconvened for the Unburden Session, designed to tackle the important matter of mental wellness among remote workers. The session was also moderated by Seun Babajide-D, who hosted Chioma Fakorede (Founder of Olamma Cares Foundation) and Awazi Angbalaga-Joshua (CEO of Shaare).

The session kicked off earnestly with breathing exercises, thanks to Chioma Fakorede. But before we got to breathing, she explained the value of proper breath control techniques and how to use mindful breathing to recenter yourself, irrespective of what’s happening around.

After the breathing exercises and when it was clear that everyone was feeling more present, the session progressed to conversations around finding balance as a remote worker and optimising your work environment for maximum output overall.

Awazi shared tips for maximising your time by outsourcing basic household chores like cleaning and housekeeping so that you can recover more time to work and take care of yourself while still maintaining a clean home and work environment. She highlighted affordable cleaning services provided by Shaare and how these services can remove the burden of house chores from your shoulders, freeing up your time for other things.

As the session progressed, the panelists covered many questions around staying healthy, finding work-life balance as your career progresses and prioritising personal health among other things.

“Someone shared this quote with me once and I’d like to share it with you all — when you’re healthy, you have one hundred problems, but when you’re unhealthy, you have just ONE; your health.” Seun said, emphasising the importance of health and wellness, both physically and mentally.

Closing

After about 3 hours of conversations, questions & answers, and exchange of ideas, we came to the end of Remote Workers’ Therapy ‘25. At the end, the guests felt relieved, refreshed and ready to take on the world.

One thing that stood out at the end was the gratitude for an event like this among the attendees. Multiple attendees shared their thanks with us at the end, highlighting that they were pleasantly surprised at how robust the experience was, considering the fact that it was free.

“I really appreciate Cenoa and the partners [Cafe One and Fusion] for putting this together. I’m also grateful to the speakers for taking their time to respond to our questions, share from their experience and talk to us about finding the balance,” Yemi, an attendee, said at the close.

Another attendee, Vera, said “This was a very important event for me. As a freelancer, we often don’t have the opportunity to interact with each other or meet others in the space and coming here has granted me that opportunity. I was also glad to find out that some of the challenges I’m facing are not unique to me. Meeting people who have experienced similar challenges and overcome them has been helpful today.”

As the skies slowly cleared that afternoon, it felt like more than just a change in weather; it mirrored the energy in the room. Lighter. Clearer. Recharged.

Remote Workers’ Therapy 2025 was just that: a breath of fresh air in the middle of demanding schedules and digital fatigue.

For us, it was an important success — bringing remote work professionals all under one roof, learning about their challenges, connecting them to leaders in the industry, and helping them find balance in their work.
